Title: In Season or Out: Lessons from the Life of Josiah

What does it look like when someone steps into a role they were never fully prepared for and yet walks in remarkable faithfulness anyway? The story of Josiah in 2 Chronicles 34 and 35 gives us a stunning picture of exactly that. Thrust onto the throne at eight years old, Josiah grew into one of the most decisive and courageous leaders in all of Israel's history. By sixteen, he was seeking God. By twenty, he was tearing down the altars, the high places, and the false systems of worship that had crept in through generations of compromise and convenience. What is striking about his story is not just what he did, but how closely it mirrored instructions he had not yet read. When a long-lost scroll of the Law was discovered during temple restoration, Josiah heard words that described the very work he had already been doing. This raises a profound question for all of us: what if God is already directing our steps toward purposes we have not yet fully understood? The message here is deeply relevant to anyone who feels out of season, underprepared, or uncertain about their place. Josiah's life reminds us that obedience, even imperfect and incomplete obedience, opens the door for God's providence to work in extraordinary ways. We are invited to ask ourselves whether we are saying yes to what God asked yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. If the answer is yes, we are likely exactly where we are supposed to be.
